Learning a new makeup technique or trying out a trend is both fun and exciting, but only when your skin doesn’t distract from the features you’re trying to highlight. The first step to solidifying your makeup skills is learning how to get the most out of your skin, which has everything to do with how you care for it. Despite varying skin types or sensitivities, there are some tried and true practices that every woman should adopt for healthy, clear, vibrant skin.
Clean Skin Combats Crows Feet
It’s no secret that washing your face will improve your skin, but recent studies also show that keeping pores clean has a strong impact on the aging process. Therefore, washing with a cleanser that’s gentle enough to use every day is the best anti-aging secret there is! Another tip: keep facial wipes on hand for lazier days or when you’re on the go!
When dead cells build up on the surface of your skin, it causes two problems: clogged pores and dullness. For a face that looks flawless even without makeup, exfoliating is key, and should be completed 1-3 times per week depending on the oiliness of your skin and the climate in which you live. If you have sensitive skin, be sure to scrub gently and use extra caution around your eyes.
Moisturize to Maximize Makeup
If your pores are parched, any face makeup that is applied without moisturizing first will be absorbed into your skin, leading to breakouts and other issues. Even if your skin is on the oilier side, keeping it hydrated will actually help it stop producing excess oil to compensate for the lack of moisture! If you’re concerned with breaking out, try an oil-free formula for soft skin with no chance of shine.
Extra Care for Eyes
The skin around your eyes is thinner than the rest of your face, and therefore, is more susceptible to damage and discoloration. Give them a little extra TLC to boost hydration and tone, for a brighter more even undereye. Eye creams may seem excessive and/or expensive, but they are incredibly beneficial and fortunately, becoming more affordable all the time. For the biggest bang for your buck, we recommend using an overnight cream for maximum.
