How to Upgrade Your Highlighting Skills for the Best Glow

We asked and you answered! The focus of last week’s Win it Wednesday question was favorite makeup trends of 2017. Many of you said you prefer minimal makeup, a few expressed their love of contour, but we received an overwhelming amount of responses admitting a love affair with the highlight. Although we’ve declared 2017 as the year of the highlight, who says we have to abandon it in 2018?

Elevating our glow is on the top of our New Year’s resolutions list and we’re sharing the best way to do it.

  1. The Fluffy Brush

In order to get the best glow, you need the best tools. With a powder highlighter, you’ll need a fluffy brush that will help the formula glide on with ease. A flat fan brush works well, but so does a small stubby brush that can easily access the smaller areas on your face, like your cheekbones and chin.

  1. The Subtle Glow

Now is the time to make a choice between achieving a simple, natural glow or a bright, dewy glow. If you’re a highlight virgin, you may want to take baby steps with the V-technique. The easiest way to do this is to swipe your highlight in a sideways V-shape from your temple to the cheekbones.

  1. The Dewy Glow

To get an all-around glow on your face, you’ll want to tackle more than your cheekbones. The highlight rule is to use the highest planes of your face for application. These include your brow bone, cheeks, cupid’s bow, chin and the center of your nose.

  1. The Tame

If you ever go glow-crazy and find yourself shining brighter than the sun—no worries—it happens to the best of us. You wouldn’t believe how easy this fix is. Tone it down by lightly dusting a little contour powder over the glow. You can also use a brush that has no product on it to remove excess highlight and help it blend naturally.

And there you have it—Jerome’s best advice to help you upgrade your glow this year. Our Blush and Bronze Duo includes a highlighter to enliven your complexion and give you a healthy dewy finish. It also comes with a Mini Stubby Brush, perfect for highlighting the smallest features of your face.
