Every season there are new makeup trends and hairstyles that you may be dying to try. But how do you know if they will be flattering on you? The first step to knowing if any look will be right for you is determining your face shape. Once you know how to classify your canvas, you will be able to adapt any look to work for you.
Here’s a guide to the four most common face shapes:
This face shape is the most common, and is characterized by a forehead that is just slightly wider than your chin. Your jawline will be a bit rounded and your face will be a bit longer than it is wide. This is the most versatile shape, meaning nearly every style will enhance your natural beauty!
Round shaped faces tend to be widest at the cheekbones. Your jaw will be curved and your face will have a circular form. (Think of a square face, but with softer angles.)
For those with heart-shaped faces, you’ll notice the widest parts of your face are your forehead and cheekbones, coupled with a narrow chin. You’ll have a long and pointed jawline, with the chin being the smallest point of the face. Imagine a triangle flipped upside down on one point.
Think strong, prominent foreheads and angular jawlines. The sides of your face will be straight and your face will be nearly as wide as it is long. Your jawline is defined, with only a minimal curve.
Once you determine your face shape, you can adapt any makeup look to fit your face. Wish it were different? Try contouring and highlighting to visually change the way the shape of your features appears.
